French & Son is a household name in Heathfield (East Sussex) and has served the local community for over three generations. Now, the fourth generation, Charlie French has gone in a different direction.

Charlie’s involvement with motorsport, as well as racing his own self-built Ford Escort, led him away from the family business to work for engineer and British Rally Cross Champion, Julian Godfrey. After eight years with Julian, Charlie completed his apprenticeship and had gained a broad knowledge of the industry. Needing a new challenge, he decided to set up his own manufacturing business; French and Son Engineering.

Initially focusing on supplying aftermarket parts for car and motorcycle enthusiasts, French & Son Engineering invested in a vertical machining centre in 2016. Since this time, the reputation of Charlie’s ability to problem solve and add value to existing components has brought him to the attention of several businesses. The business also provides a fast response for people that need parts after a race weekend and so we regularly manufacture batch-quantities for customers.
